Teacher Orientation

At Xijie Foreign Language School you will:

·          Build vocabulary;

·          Learn correct pronunciation;

·          Improve listening comprehension;

·          Learn and practice common grammar structures;

·          Learn and practice common everyday conversational skills;

·          Receive individual instruction and feedback in small classes;

·          Gain confidence in speaking English!!!

Welcome to Xijie Foreign Language School. We hope this will help get yourself settled in and answer a few questions you might have.

1. School campuses and locations:

We have 2 campuses in Yangshuo:

a) West Street Campus  (New school est. April, 2005)

b) Technical College (Old school est. 2003)

The West Street campus focuses primarily on (but not limited to) Oral Communication, Business English and Comprehensive English courses of between 1 to 6 month terms or more, as well as Chinese language and culture classes to non-Chinese speakers.

The Technical College campus focuses primarily on (but not limited to) 3 year vocational school courses including oral English communication, grammar, business English, tourism English, Japanese language and computer applications.

2. School terms:

The new school term for the normal vocational school courses runs from Feb. 15, 06 ~ Jun.30, 06 with 1 week off from May 1 ~ May 7.

During the summer term we have a number of summer camp classes consisting of 2 weeks to 1 month terms.

Other Oral Communication, Business English and Comprehensive English courses are on going terms of between 1 to 6 months or more.

3. Expectations of teachers:

     - Present yourself in a professional and responsible manner.

     - Be on time for all classes and meetings.

     - Be well prepared for all classes.

     - Follow the prescribed texts for the corresponding classes. (Supplemental materials are

        encouraged to be used at the instructor’s discretion)

     - Write out lesson plans on sheets provided and hand in to Forrest on Friday afternoon.

     - Attend weekly teacher’s meetings – every Mon. 6:30pm.

     - Attend weekly English Corner – every Wed. 7:30 pm.

     - Attend periodic extra-curricular functions.
